Dreo Ceiling Fans with Lights 12 Speeds: The Smart Fan That Does It All
Most ceiling fans are stuck in the past. You pull a chain, hope the speed is tolerable, and live with harsh, non-adjustable light. The Dreo Ceiling Fans with Lights 12 Speeds drags ceiling fans into the modern era. With app control, voice compatibility (Alexa and Google Home), a dimmable LED light with adjustable color temperature (2700K to 6500K), and a whisper-quiet DC motor, this flush-mount fan is redefining what a bedroom or living room fan can do.
Priced at 169.99(withcoloroptionsincludingBlack,Silver,andWhite—Whitecurrentlyat169.99(withcoloroptionsincludingBlack,Silver,andWhite—Whitecurrentlyat152.63) and earning a 4.6-star rating from 472 reviews, the Dreo Ceiling Fans with Lights 12 Speeds has strong early traction. With 50+ units bought in the past month and WiFi/Alexa compatibility, this is a serious contender in the smart ceiling fan market. Let us break down whether it belongs in your home.
Why a Dreo Ceiling Fans with Lights 12 Speeds?
Standard ceiling fans offer 3-5 speeds. The jump from low to medium is often jarring—either too weak or too windy. The Dreo Ceiling Fans with Lights 12 Speeds provides granular control across 12 levels, plus three fan modes, allowing you to dial in the perfect airflow for sleeping, working, or cooling down after exercise. Add a dimmable LED light (up to 2,400 lumens) and smart home integration, and this fan replaces multiple devices.

Pros and Cons (Dreo Ceiling Fans with Lights 12 Speeds)
Based on the specifications and 4.6-star rating from 472 reviews, here is the honest assessment of the Dreo Ceiling Fans with Lights 12 Speeds.
Pros ✅ Cons ❌ 12 Speeds + 3 Modes: Unprecedented control. Find the exact airflow you want without jarring jumps. Price (152−152−170): More expensive than basic ceiling fans (50−50−100). You pay a premium for smart features. Full Smart Home Integration: Works with Alexa, Google Home, and the DREO app. Control from bed, couch, or across the country. Requires WiFi for App/Smart Features: If you do not have reliable WiFi or prefer simplicity, the smart features are wasted. Adjustable Color Temperature (2700K-6500K): Warm light for evenings, cool white for focus. One fan replaces multiple lighting setups. 44-Inch Size Only: May be too small for large living rooms (20×20 feet+). Dreo does not offer larger sizes (52-60 inches) in this model. Dimmable LED (2,400 lumens): Bright enough for a bedroom or home office. Infinitely adjustable brightness. Flush Mount Only: This is a low-profile fan. If you have high ceilings (12+ feet), a downrod fan may circulate air better. Ultra-Quiet DC Motor: Brushless DC motors are quieter and more energy-efficient than traditional AC motors. Perfect for bedrooms and nurseries. No Light Only Mode? Unclear if the fan can run completely independently of the light. This is an issue on some integrated fans. Check reviews. 12-Hour Timer: Set the fan to turn off after you fall asleep. Convenient for bedtime cooling. 9.67-Inch Height May Be Bulky: For very low ceilings (under 8 feet), nearly 10 inches of drop could feel close to tall people’s heads. Pre-Assembled Parts: Easier installation than traditional ceiling fans. Instructions and videos provided. Remote Control is Basic: Advanced features (scheduling, full 12 speeds, 12-hour timer) require the app. Remote gives only 3 timer options (1/4/8 hrs). Strong Customer Rating (4.6 stars from 472): Reliable sample size. Users generally satisfied. Limited Color Temperature Range? 2700K-6500K is excellent but does not include candlelight (2200K) for very warm ambiance. 50+ Bought in Past Month: Active demand and strong sales velocity. Brand New to Fans? DREO is known for heaters and air circulators. Ceiling fans are a newer category for them. Track record is shorter than Hunter or Hampton Bay.

Deep Dive: 12 Speeds vs. Standard 5 Speeds
Standard Fan (5 speeds): Speed 1 is barely moving. Speed 3 is noticeable but gentle. Speed 5 is hurricane mode. The gaps are large. You often end up wishing for a speed “3.5.” of Dreo Ceiling Fans with Lights 12 Speeds
Dreo with 12 Speeds: Speed 1 is the lightest possible breeze. Speed 12 is maximum airflow. The eight speeds in between allow you to find the perfect middle ground. If Speed 4 is too weak and Speed 5 is too strong, you can land on Speed 4.5 (metaphorically). This granularity is especially valuable for:
-
Sleeping: Find the exact breeze that cools without disturbing blankets.
-
Home offices: Cool your face without blowing papers.
-
Nurseries: Gentle air circulation for a sleeping baby.
Three Fan Modes: While not fully detailed, typical modes include:
-
Normal Mode: Constant speed (traditional fan behavior).
-
Natural Mode: Speed fluctuates to mimic natural wind.
-
Sleep Mode: Gradually decreases speed overnight to prevent overcooling.
Who Should Buy This? Dreo Ceiling Fans with Lights 12 Speeds
-
Smart Home Owners: You already use Alexa or Google Home to control lights, thermostats, and plugs. Adding the Dreo fan to your ecosystem is seamless.
-
Bedroom Sleepers: The 12 speeds, 12-hour timer, and ultra-quiet DC motor allow you to run the fan all night without noise or overcooling.
-
People with Low Ceilings: The flush-mount, low-profile design (9.67 inches) fits rooms with 8-foot ceilings where traditional downrod fans would be dangerously low.
-
Those Who Disagree on Light Temperature: One person wants warm light for reading. Another wants cool light for working. The adjustable color temperature (2700K-6500K) settles the argument.
-
Nurseries or Baby Rooms: Quiet operation and gentle airflow (low speeds) make this safe and non-disruptive for infants.
-
Renters or DIY Installers: Pre-assembled parts and detailed installation videos reduce the need for professional electricians (though electrical work still requires care).
Who Should Skip This? Dreo Ceiling Fans with Lights 12 Speeds
-
Budget Buyers: If you need a basic fan for a rental property or workshop under $80, buy a Hunter or Hampton Bay basic model instead.
-
People Without WiFi or Smartphones: The advanced features (scheduling, 12 speeds, 12-hour timer) require the DREO app via smartphone. Remote gives only 3 speeds? (Check manual—remote may offer limited speed selection).
-
Large Room Owners: 44 inches is suitable for rooms up to 144 square feet (12×12). For living rooms (300+ sq ft), you need a 52-60 inch fan for adequate air movement.
-
Those with Very High Ceilings (12+ feet): Flush-mount fans are less effective at moving air down from high ceilings. You need a downrod fan (18-24 inches down).
-
People Who Hate Apps: If you want a simple pull-chain fan and nothing more, the smart features will annoy you.
-
Those Seeking Decorative Statement: The design is modern but minimalist. If you want ornate wood blades or vintage styling, look elsewhere.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Dreo Ceiling Fans with Lights 12 Speeds
Q1: Does the Dreo ceiling fan work without WiFi?
A: Yes. The fan includes a remote control for basic functions. However, to access all 12 speeds, 3 modes, 12-hour timers, scheduling, and light color temperature adjustment, you need the DREO app and a WiFi connection.
Q2: Can I control the light and fan separately?
A: Yes. The DREO app and remote allow independent control of fan speed and lighting. You can run the fan without the light (if you have separate wall switches, installation matters—consult an electrician). You can also run the light without the fan.
Q3: Is the light bright enough for a home office?
A: At 2,400 lumens, yes. For comparison: a standard 60W incandescent bulb produces 800 lumens. 2,400 lumens is equivalent to three 60W bulbs. This is sufficient for a bedroom, home office, or kitchen. For a large living room or basement, you may need additional floor or table lamps.
Q4: How difficult is installation?
A: Dreo claims “easy installation” with pre-assembled parts. However, installing any ceiling fan requires:
-
Turning off power at the breaker
-
Basic electrical knowledge (connecting wires: black to black, white to white, ground to ground)
-
Mounting the bracket securely to a ceiling electrical box rated for fan support
If you are uncomfortable with electrical work, hire a licensed electrician (100−100−200). Do not install a 44-inch spinning fan with improper wiring or mounting.
Q5: Is it truly quiet?
A: Brushless DC motors are inherently quieter than traditional AC motors. Dreo claims “less than a whisper.” For sleeping babies or light sleepers, this is a significant advantage. However, complete silence is impossible for any fan moving air. Expect a gentle whoosh at higher speeds.
Installation Tips for US Homes (Dreo Ceiling Fans with Lights 12 Speeds)
Before buying the Dreo Ceiling Fans with Lights 12 Speeds, verify the following:
-
Ceiling Electrical Box: Must be rated for fan support (not just a light fixture box). Look for “FAN RATED” stamped inside the box. If not, replace the box before installation.
-
Ceiling Height: For 8-foot ceilings, the fan will hang at about 7 feet 2 inches (assuming 9.67-inch drop). This is safe for most people under 6 feet tall. Taller individuals (6’2″+) should measure carefully.
-
Room Size: 44-inch fans suit rooms up to 144 sq ft (12×12). For larger rooms, consider two smaller fans or a single larger fan from another brand.
-
Electrical Wiring: You need a neutral wire (usually white) in the ceiling box for smart fan functionality. Older homes (pre-1980s) may lack neutral wires. Check before purchasing.
-
Wall Switch: If you want to keep a wall switch for power cutoff, ensure the switch box has space for a smart dimmer (optional). Most users simply cap the wall switch in the ON position and use app/remote/voice control.
Final Verdict: Should You Buy It?
Buy the Dreo Ceiling Fans with Lights 12 Speeds if:
-
You want smart home integration (Alexa, Google Home, app control).
-
You value granular airflow control across 12 speeds and 3 modes.
-
You need adjustable light color temperature (2700K to 6500K) in one fixture.
-
Your room is 144 sq ft or smaller (12×12 feet or less).
-
Your ceiling height is 8-10 feet (flush mount works well).
-
You are willing to spend 150−150−170 for premium features.
-
You want a quiet DC motor for bedrooms, nurseries, or home offices.
Skip it and buy something else if: Dreo Ceiling Fans with Lights 12 Speeds
-
Your budget is under $100 (buy a basic Hunter or Hampton Bay fan).
-
Your room is larger than 200 sq ft (buy a 52-60 inch fan instead).
-
You have very high ceilings (12+ feet) requiring a downrod fan.
-
You do not have WiFi or dislike smartphone apps.
-
You need a damp-rated or wet-rated fan for outdoor or shower use.
-
You prefer traditional pull-chain simplicity over smart features.
Bottom Line: The Dreo Ceiling Fans with Lights 12 Speeds offers impressive value for smart home owners and bedroom users. The combination of 12 speeds, 3 modes, adjustable color temperature (2700K-6500K), 2,400 lumens, and quiet DC motor at 152−152−169 is competitive. With a 4.6-star rating from 472 reviews and 50+ monthly sales, early adopters are satisfied. However, the 44-inch size limits it to smaller rooms, and long-term durability (since Dreo is newer to ceiling fans) is unproven. For a bedroom, home office, or nursery under 150 square feet, this is an excellent choice. For a large living room, high ceiling, or tight budget, look elsewhere.

Love it !
Amazing Fan. This is a third Dreo ceiling fan I purchased. One in every room now. Exceptional fan features like app fan control for light brightness and warmth + fan speeds + fan reverse spin option + Alexa voice control. For me there is no way back to conventional fans. This version of the fan has shorter blade! Which is a plus for my situation. Mine is sitting between bunk beds and kids are finally getting air movement! We called it a “head chopper” fan, but since the blades a shorter no issues so far! Kids are extremely happy with a name and decided to keep it!Fan quality is great material wise! Fan is silent as well! No whooshing sound like other fans, pure joy 🤩.Installation quicker than for a fan with longer blades, since everything is prebuilt. One thing though, final step: light panel assembly was a bit hard… You definitely need apply power to connect it to fan assembly properly!Hope over time it will continue working. My oldest unit is half a year and works and look like new one!

Best fans I ever purchased!
The media could not be loaded.
We ordered two 44” DREO ceilings fans 1 for our living room and 1 for our bedroom, we absolutely love these fans. They are easy to install and quite as a mouse. “NO WOBBLE” well made and move the air better than any other fan I ever owned plus very modern looking. The remote is easy to use and the app is even easier. I also own 2 DREO floor fans and they are just as good, I am sold on this company. They really make a great product.

You have to try it to understand what you have been missing
This thing is quiet. Unlike the fake “whisperwind” promises you won’t hear a hum from this thing, and it does not need grommets everywhere to suppress the worst of that irritating 60 Hz electric hum either. It just does not make a sound, unless you put it at it’s highest speed. Then what you hear is a soft whoosh of air moving fast. But trust me, at speed 6 you won’t be able to keep your napkins on the table. We keep the speed at 2 while the highest practical speed we’ll ever want is perhaps 3.The edges of the blades are more rounded/beveled than the standard fan blades. I believe this too helps with aerodynamics and sound production. This thing has everything a normal person wants without being pretentious. For starters it is actually really quiet. It has 6 nicely spaced fan speed settings going from unnoticeable slow stirring of warm air accumulated at the ceiling to a whirlwind moving the curtains. The light also has 6 equally nicely spaced brightness settings ranging from “I can still find my bed” to “good for woodworking”.The LED lamp also has several color temperature settings. Again these settings are useful, meaning they do not offer all the rainbow colors and effects you would find in an’80s disco. Instead they offer color temperatures that range from moody candle light to light therapy bright sunlight. Enough to be practical and useful for a sensible grown up.The fan comes with a remote that does what it is supposed to do: turn the fan and/or light on and off and change any settings. You don’t need to use the remote as you can also just keep on using the wall light switch. The fan remembers it’s settings and will turn on to what you had it set at when you turned it off. The only slight annoyance might be that it takes 2-3 seconds for the light to come on after turning the light switch on. When using the remote there is no delay. The logical place to put that remote is on the night stand. That way you can make it to your bed safely and you don’t need to reach far to turn that last light off. This is such a little benefit that I only later on realized came with these new “fancy” remote controlled fans.Supposedly the fan can also be connected via Wifi. I have not done that. I like things to be simple and I don’t think I need to operate the fan at home while traveling the world. There are some timer choices too that I have not felt the need to play with yet either. That might change though.A thought: that big 12 inch wide circle of light on the ceiling seems a bit boring. I’m thinking about drawing some veins on it making it look like marble or something. Others might like the minimalist look. I understand.A tip to install it: This thing is heavy and unlike conventional fans it does not have some handy system where you can hang the heavy parts on the ceiling while making the electrical connections. If you are going to use wire nuts and/or have the fan blades mounted before putting it up it is going to be a 2 man job. If you use those “Wago” snap on electrical connectors while putting the fan blades on after it is on the ceiling you can do it all by yourself using only a Phillips screwdriver and a little step ladder. Installing this fan is less work than installing a conventional fan. It’s just different.

Great, Powerful, and Whisper-Quiet Ceiling Fan – Bought Two!
This Dreo ceiling fan is a standout in both design and performance. The white finish and subtle color tones give it a clean, modern look that blends beautifully with any room decor. Installation was straightforward and once mounted (quite easily I might add), it sits flush and low-profile—perfect for bedrooms. What I appreciated were the 12 fan speeds and 3 modes, along with the graduated dimmable lighting. You can fine-tune the airflow and brightness to exactly what you need, whether it’s a gentle breeze or a stronger push of air. And speaking of airflow, this fan is virtually silent but still manages to move a significant amount of air—enough that we rely on it through hot Florida nights instead of running the AC.I loved it so much I bought a second one right away. When I went back for a third and fourth, they were unfortunately out of stock, and I had to settle for a near-match from another brand for the other bedrooms. After about 8 months, I did notice one issue with the remote on our master bedroom fan—it became overly sensitive, registering touches and beeping even when just lifting it off the shelf. I had to factory reset the fan (using different instructions online) twice over 11 months because the speed seemed stuck on medium nor would it reverse (anticlockwise) for winter months, but this only affected one unit. The other in guest bedroom has worked flawlessly.Despite that minor hiccup, I still absolutely love this fan. It’s a perfect cooling solution for quiet, comfortable sleep, and the smart features make it a joy to appreciate. Trust me, if it’s not turned on, you’ll appreciate when it is!

Great quiet fan! But the initial beep..
So this fan was very easy to install, is very quiet and it moves air very well! The remote is easy to use and definitely comes in handy. My only downside is this fan was put in my bedroom. I use the light switch over the remote to turn the light on and off when I enter/exit the room just due to convenience of having the remote next to my bed. HOWEVER, the ‘beeping’ noise the fan makes when you turn the light on by the switch is very loud, long, and obnoxious.. yes you can turn the sound off on the remote and app, but every time you turn the light/fan off by the main switch on the wall it plays the loud obnoxious BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP, regardless. Honestly this fan would be perfect without the loud beep! Would love to install another one of these in my living room, however I won’t until either that setting can be fixed or updated.

Great fan – recommend purchase!
We bought this fan to replace our living room fan since it was broken. After reading the reviews we thought we’d give it a whirl! It’s great! Creates strong breeze, can set the light to go on and off remotely! We liked it so much we are now buying more to go in our rooms. Great price, easy to assemble, multiple fan speeds! looks great and is lower profile than the fan i had before – so great for low ceilings. Highly recommend!

Great choice for modern and century homes
I have a few other DREO fans that I’m impressed with so I thought I’d take a chance with this ceiling fan. This fan does not disappoint. It’s very simple to install. Once you remove the base and install it to the ceiling box mount there is a small hook you can hang the base from while you tie into the ground, hit, and neutral wires for your switch. There’s plenty of space so the electrical connection won’t be cramped while you twist the base onto the mount and screw it tight. Mine came with a collar for the mount plate to hide the screws so not sure what the other reviewers are talking about. I preferred to install the four fan blades on a work table and then bring it to the ceiling box.As far as operation goes, it’s very smooth and quiet. Was able to pair it easily to the app and control it along with my other DREO products. The remote is pretty nice and doesn’t feel too “plasticky”. The light gets bright and has a smooth to soft characteristic with many different color temperatures to choose from.Overall very happy to have this well designed and functional fan in our four bedrooms, especially during this part of the summer.

Great smart fan at an unbeatable price
Great fan. Super quiet with a bright light. The app is intuitive and responsive. The remote is also great. This product is a big step up from my old Hunter “smart” fan, which constantly dropped its WiFi connection.I also like that it’s compact and really hugs the ceiling. It’s a much cleaner look than fans that hang down too far from the ceiling.

Five Stars for a Five Star Light/Fan
I’ll add my five stars to those who have already reviewed this light. It was very easy to install. The light is strong enough to fill a 12 x 12 foot home office space and it’s doesn’t have any glare. I love the fact that when both the light and fan are turned off, when it’s turned on again, it remembers both the light and fan settings – it it just resumes where it left off, so to speak. The remote is simple and it works well. I have it set up to my Alexa account so i just have to say, ‘Alexa, turn on my office light,’ or ‘Alexa, set the office fan to 3’ and it does it. I’ve never had a light/fan do that before, so it’s kind of cool. I have no complaints about the light. It looks and works great.

Great Fan
The set up took me forever since I have minimal experience, but I was able to do most of it alone which was nice. I like the app and remote control and the fan is nice for my lower ceilings. I do wish the light could be even dimmer. The size is great for my smaller bedrooms too.
